Notable is the almost sculptural
appearance of Christ, who wears the
Crown of thorns and a loincloth, on
which Zurbarán displays his
technical prowess in handling the
range of whites. The strongly
contrasted light on both the
sponsor's face and the body of
Christ add depth to the composition
and link its technique to
tenebrism.
