- Legacy of Ramón de Errazu, 1904
The musician, Juan Bautista Pujol
(1835-1898), sits at the piano
playing Gran fantasía de Fausto,
his work inspired by the opera of
Charles Gounod (1818 - 1893), as is
indicated in the inscription at the
lower left corner.
The composition is divided into two
parts: the dream, which represents
the musical passage in which Martha
is courted by Mephistopheles and
Faust is accompanied by Marguerite;
and reality, in which Pujol plays
the piano in the company of the
painters, Agapito Francés
(1840-1869) and Lorenzo Casanova
(1845-1900)
.
This painting entered the Prado
Museum as part of the legacy of
Ramón Errazu.
