A full-length portrait of Tadea
Arias de Enríquez (1770-1855),
wearing a tulle dress with a black
ribbon. The background is a
landscape. The artist chose to
represent the model stretching the
glove on her right arm, along with
the coats of arms of the Arias and
León families. The latter belonged
to her husband, Captain Tomás de
León (d. 1793). This work may well
be a commemoration of their
wedding, which took place in
1790.
The composition of this work
directly follows models from
English portraits of that period,
depicting the model in a garden as
a way of bringing out her beauty.
