I’m Miguel Zugaza and one day in January 2002 I became director of the Museo del Prado: a great honour and a great responsibility.
I remember that I came to the Museum, I wandered round a bit outside then I went in before going to my office. I made a call:. I called from just outside the Museum. Then I went to the offices, known as the “GDR”, on calle Ruiz de Alarcón. So I have the feeling that I went in that day and I didn’t come out until 15 years later; as they were 15 years of extremely intense and fantastic work but very much about getting things done. My directorship was very much an internal one about organisation and getting things done.
Director of the Museo del Prado and trustee of the Friends of the Museo del Prado Foundation. He was also assistant director of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and is currently director of the Museo de Bellas Artes in Bilbao.
