The work carried out by Miguel Zugaza was extraordinary. You always need that little something supplied by the Goddess of Fortune known as timing. The ideal person can come along at the worst time and simply become frustrated. An ideal moment can also exist, and the worst person comes along. But when the ideal person appears at the optimum moment, which is what happened, then an entire transformation can take place, turning the Museum into what it is today. The Museum was in the rearguard, and not only in a technological sense, but from every point of view: number of curators, rating … In short, the list of failings was quite endless, because nothing worked well. Today, however, the Museum is a veritable example to follow. Like an ugly duckling, this monster of the great museums, has become a swan.
Director of the Museo del Prado from 1993 to 1994, he was a founding member and Trustee of the Board of the Friends of the Museo del Prado Foundation. Moreover, he was Professor of Art History at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, the curator of several exhibitions and an art critic.
