Saint James the Apostle

Ca. 1450. Oil on panel. Not on display

The depiction of the titular saint seated on an ornately decorated Gothic throne presided over numerous late Medieval Hispanic altarpieces. This panel is one example, commissioned by the donor depicted at the saint’s feet. It is now considered to be by the enigmatic Jacomart, a noted Valencian painter of whom little is known but who worked for King Alfonso the Magnanimous.
