The triumph of Galatea
XVI century. Pencil, Pencil ground, Grey-brown ink on paper. Not on display
Another closely corresponding School version of this drawing, also in pen and ink, but showing the composition in reverse and with some small differences in detail, is in the Accademia, Venice (inv. no. 2577). A studio drawing of a variant composition is in the British Museum, London (inv. no. 1946-7-13-1345). In the British Museum drawing Galatea rides on a pair of dolphins in the center of the composition, similarly controlling them with reins, while the embracing couple appears on the left, instead of the right.
