This vessel had a pair, now lost (I1416), which must have been very similar and by the same hand as O37, the work of the silversmith Pierre Ladoyreau or Ladoireau, who made part of the silver furnishings at Versailles. This column of bigio marble and its pair were part of a magnificent group of eighty architectural elements made of ancient and modern coloured marbles that belonged to Queen Christina of Sweden. Philip V and Isabella Farnese acquired them in Rome in 1724 from Livio Odescalchi’s heir as decoration for the palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso.
