A portrait of the actor, Isidoro Máiquez (1768-1820). Considered one of the great thespians of his time, he studied in Paris and was a protégé of the Duke and Duchess of Osuna.
The technique Goya uses here, thick brushstrokes with large amounts of paint, foreshadows the main characteristics of his final works. The composition, with the model completely in the foreground, emphasizes the actor's resolution and mood.
This work was sent from the Ministry of Government to that of Development by Royal Order of 15 March 1872. In June of that same year, it entered the Trinity Museum.
