The Infanta Leonor de Austria was Carlos V's sister. This bust portrait shows her facing forward, with a widow's headdress, on a pedestal carved with her name.
This is a realistic and very academic work in keeping with the style of Jacques Dubroeucq, one of the favorite artists of Maria of Hungary, from whose collection it comes. The sculptor based his work on a painting of that same Infanta by Antonio Moro, which also belonged to Maria of Hungary.
This sculpture has been attributed to various artists over the course of its history, including Pompeo Leoni and Jacopo da Trezzo.
