- Legacy of Ramón de Errazu, 1904
A full-length portrait of Ramón de Errazu, a personal friend and client of Madrazo, who bought and commissioned numerous works.
The direct composition, which has been called “Velasquez-like” because of its similarity to some works by the painter Diego Velasquez, and the artist's deep knowledge of the sitter's personality, contribute to the painting's overall qualities of total naturalness and elegance. The narrow, vertical format, which was used profusely by French portrait painters from the last third of the nineteenth century, helps to idealize the figure of Errazu.
This painting entered the Prado Museum as part of the Ramón de Errazu legacy.
