The Apostle Peter was sent to prison by Herod but escaped with the help of an Angel who, with his left hand, points the way to freedom while the guard is asleep (Acts, 12).
This work was painted by Guercino during his Roman period (1621-1623). Carlos III acquired it from the Marquis of La Ensenada.
