The soft lighting especially brings out the whiteness of the dress and the qualities of the duchess's face and hands, displaying the technical mastery characteristic of this artist.

This work was willed to the Prado Museum by the duchess's aunt, María Paz García de la Lama y Álvarez, in 1964.
