- Donación Viuda de Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo, 1950
Fortuny portrayed his children on numerous occasions throughout his life, always in tranquil settings filled with candor and joy, as is the case of this portrait of María Luisa and Mariano in a Japanese room.
The exuberant vegetation on the left and the dreamlike decorative elements recall a world of childhood fantasies.
The rapid and elaborate technique in the upper part contrasts with the barely sketched-in floor, in which only what appears to be the reflection of the plants is visible.
This work was willed to the Prado Museum by Mariano Fortuny y Madrazo and entered its collection in 1950.
