Louise-Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun
Paris (France), 16.4.1755 - Paris, 30.3.1842She was the daughter and disciple of Louis Vigée, and she was influenced by J. B. Greuze. She gained notable fame among the European aristocracy of her time with her graceful oil and pastel portraits. As the official painter of Marie Antoinette, she was able to migrate to other European courts during the Revolution. She returned to France in 1802, but she frequently travelled abroad. In 1810, she almost entirely ceased her previous activity to devote herself to landscape painting and the writing of her memoirs.
Her self-portrait appears in work D002293 at the Prado Museum.
