Art and Myth. The Gods in the Prado

Until 6 January 2020

Art and Myth. The Gods in the Prado is an exhibition organised by the Museo Nacional del Prado and Obra Social “la Caixa”. It will offer a wide-ranging vision of classical mythology and its representation in paintings, sculptures and objects from the mid-1st century BC to the late 18th century.

The exhibition offers a diachronic approach, structured into eight thematic sections which simultaneously present different representations of gods and different interpretations of a single mythological episode with the aim of assisting in an appreciation of the iconographic, geographical and chronological richness of the Museo del Prado’s collections though around 50 works by key figures in the history of art, including Rubens, Ribera and Zurbarán among many others.
