Allegory of Dawn
Second half of the XVII century. Touches of red chalk, Black chalk on laid paper. Not on display
The drawing depicts an allegorical female figure flying to the right, accompanied by cherubim. She scatters flowers on the Earth as she flies behind a bird, probably a rooster. This work was made in Madrid between 1650–1700 and can be associated with Coello’s style. It was probably done in preparation for a number of ceilings and cupolas of the Alcázar or the Buen Retiro Palace.
