Allegory of the Redemption
First half of the XVII century. Pencil ground, Ink, Grey-brown wash on laid paper. Not on display
The Virgin is depicted standing, crowned and with a sceptre. She holds the Christ Child and steps with her right foot on the head of the serpent that carries the apple in its mouth and coils around the world. In the foreground, Adam and Eve are depicted half-length, in prayer. The Holy Spirit and cherubim are above them.
This drawing is possibly from Seville and dates from the first half of the century. It bears quite a few similarities to Pacheco’s oeuvre.
