Altarpiece of the Virgin of Sorrows
1805. Black chalk, Red chalk on laid paper. Not on display
The altar in the drawing is neoclassical. At the base is an urn with the recumbent dead Christ. In the main body of the composition is a niche flanked by two pairs of Corinthian columns, with a dressed image of the Virgin of Solitude with mantle and headdress, a crown of spokes and seven daggers over her heart. In the attic, on the pediment, is the Holy Spirit. Child angels can be seen above, one of them with a phylactery.
At the foot of the drawing is the crest of the venerable third order and a coat of arms.
