Altarpiece of the Virgin
XVIII century. Grey-brown wash, Pencil on laid paper. Not on display
This drawing depicts the seated and crowned Virgin with the Christ Child standing on her left knee in a central niche. It is flanked by two pairs of Corinthian columns, which support an entablature. Above it is a square attic, with a curved pediment and the emblem of Mary amongst glowing lights. On either side of the altar table are adoring angels on volutes; on pedestals are two figures of saints (Evangelists?) with open books.
The style is similar to Ventura Rodríguez and has a notable Roman influence.
