An Elder and Saint Peter (?)
1771. White chalk, Black chalk, Squared-up on green paper. Not on display
This is a preparatory drawing for two figures for the fresco Quo Vadis? for the cupola interior of the Collegiate church of La Granja de San Ildefonso Royal Palace, which was destroyed in the fire of 1920. The Museo Provincial de Zaragoza keeps the oil sketch. The figure on the left is depicted facing forwards and with his head turned to the right. He wears a mantle over his head, and his hands are clasped together. The figure on the right is depicted kneeling, wearing a mantle and stretching out his arms. The garments are studied in both subjects. These two figures correspond to the figure of the elder situated to the right of Christ and to the figure of Saint Peter for the very same fresco.
