1782. White chalk, Black chalk on dark toned paper. Not on display
This is a preparatory drawing for the figure in the lower part of the central register of the fresco The Death of Saint Casilda in the cloister of Toledo Cathedral. This cathedral keeps a preparatory sketch, which was ultimately not used by the painter. Moreover, the Museo del Prado keeps other related drawings for the same sketch. The figure is depicted in half-length with her hands in prayer. It was attributed to Maella together with the sketch kept in Toledo Cathedral. Among those attributed are also the other drawings, certainly by Francisco Bayeu, in the holdings of the Museo del Prado along with the drawing of the complete figure (D000620), of which this drawing represents the upper half.
