The scene takes place in the village of Rubena (Burgos), which is mainly recognizable by its church in the background with its distinct three-storey bell gable. The composition represents a bowling game, a variety known as ‘Burgos bowling’. Nowadays, it is a registered sport that is only practised in a few villages near the city of Burgos (information provided to the Museum via email by Mr Óscar Ruiz, 17 May 2019).
