Boy in a Toga

XVI century. Travertine, Marble, Porphyry. Room 031

This figure was restored in the seventeenth century or later to take the form of a young orator holding a scroll in his right hand. He wears an ornate toga with a horizontal contabulatio across the chest, a fashion that began around 200AD during the reign of Severus and could thus provide a date for this work, if it is in fact antique.
