Christ in Glory among Saints and Embodiments of the Four Continents
Late XVII century. Grey-brown wash, Pencil, Pencil ground on dark yellow paper. Not on display
Christ is depicted half-clothed, seated on clouds. On either side, there are two saints kneeling imploringly. One of them is a priest, as suggested by the maniple over his left arm. In the lower register, there is a sphere – probably the Earth – and four figures in prayer. One of them represents a queen offering the crown and the sceptre. Behind her, there is an American Indian with a bow and arrow. It is probably an Andalusian drawing from the end of the century.
