Cover for a Book
Mid-XVIIcentury. Grey-brown wash, Ink on laid paper. Not on display
This work was most likely a proposal for a frontispiece that was rejected, either because it was not iconographically appropriate for what was requested or because the edition of the book changed. This appears to be demonstrated by the book published in 1659 by Miguel Batista de Lanuza titled Fundacion y excelencias del Conuento de S. Ioseph de Carmelitas descalzas de Çaragoça: vidas y elogios de trynta religiosas que han viuido y muerto en el. En Zaragoça: por los herederos de Pedro Lanaja y Lamarca with a frontispiece hand-engraved by Thiboust in Madrid.
