Death of Saint Cecilia
Second half of the XVIII century. Red chalk on laid paper. Not on display
The saint, half lying on the ground, is assisted by two women, one of whom kisses her hand. On the right, the pontiff, followed by his entourage, blesses her. Above, a young angel bearing the palm branch and the crown of martyrdom appears. The composition is directly related to Domenichino’s in the church of San Luigi dei Francesi in Rome. It was probably drawn in Rome and is likely related to drawing D000674 for an undetermined set.
