Decorative Motifs
Second half of the XVII century. Grey-brown wash, Pencil on laid paper. Not on display
This drawing includes studies of three decorative motifs. In the upper register, there is an eagle on acanthus scrolls. In the centre, there is an eagle with ribbon in its beak, and in the lower register, there are two grotesque masks.
This was unlikely to have been Gazul’s invention, but rather a copy of a print, similar to those of Stefano della Bella that were widespread in Spain.
