Diana and Endymion / Light Sketch
XVII century. Black chalk on laid paper. Not on display
The shepherd Endymion is depicted seated on the ground, held upright by a cupid. The goddess Diana approaches him with open arms from her chariot. On the verso, there is a very light sketch that was also made in black pencil and for the same composition. This very beautiful drawing was made by employing a technique characteristic of the Madrid artists from Carreño’s circle, such as Cerezo or Escalante
