Three of the women are sewing around a table, where a vase of flowers lies. The other is standing and reading. There are canvases on a chair, on the floor and hanging on the wall. Manuel García "Hispaleto" took part in the National Exhibition of 1878 with this work, for which he received a Cross of Charles III. He also took part in the Paris Universal Exhibition that same year with a painting bearing the same title, but in different sizes. Both paintings include recurring elements, such as the wall clock, the carpet, the flower pot hanging from the ceiling, the wardrobe, etc.
