Ecce Homo
XVIII century. Black chalk on yellow paper. Not on display
This is a study depicting an Ecce Homo, naked above the waist. He is holding a reed in his left hand.
According to Angulo (via handwritten slips in the Museum’s archive) it bore González Ruiz’s signature, which was probably cut off when it was traced back to the time of Velasco. The drawing is executed in the traditional 17th-century technique from Madrid and the model is largely reminiscent of Palomino, who is evoked by the youthful religious work of González Ruiz.
