Frame of Contemporary Poets. A Reading by Zorilla in the Painter's Studio
Ca. 1846. Joined / assembled, Moulded, Water gilding.Room 061
This frame is in the Isabelline style popular in Spain between 1830 and 1875, a period roughly coinciding with the reign of Isabella II, from whom it takes its name. It is Neo-Rococo and eclectic in taste, and the influence of the Louis XV style is apparent in the decorative motifs: rounded ovals between rocailles in the corners, generally featuring bouquets of flowers of all kinds, particularly roses, of which the queen was very fond.
