Gladiator

XVIII century. Red chalk on laid paper.

This is a copy of a classical sculpture called The Borghese Gladiator (signed by Agasias of Ephesus and now kept in the Louvre Museum) depicted in profile towards the left.

It is undoubtedly a nude figure study, executed in Rome by a pensioner.
