Hand of the Muse Urania holding
XVII century. Sculpted.Vitrina
The restoration of classical sculpture from the Renaissance onwards gave the works in question of a second life, but before they could be exhibited in galleries any missing parts had to be reconstructed. This was the case of the Muse Urania´s hand, which had been made in the 17th century by one the sculptors working for Queen Christina of Sweden. When the statue arrived in Spain, the hand was marked with the fleur-de-lis identifying it as belonging to Isabella Farnese; later, in view of its poor state of repair, it was replaced by the hand now to be seen on the statue.
