This is a preparatory drawing for the head of the figure of God the Father for the fresco The Creation of Adam for one of the eight sections of the cupola in the Collegiate Church of La Granja de San Ildefonso, destroyed in the fire of 1920. The Museo del Prado keeps several sketches made for the same fresco. The drawing depicts the study of a three-quarter head tilted to the left with a lowered gaze.
