Head of a Man / Hand Study
Mid-XVIIcentury. Brown chalk on dark yellow paper. Not on display
This drawing depicts a man’s head turned three-quarters to the right and his eyes raised. On the verso, there is a hand study made using the same technique. It is an excellent example of a portrait, probably from the mid-century Madrid. It displays notable vivacity and vibrancy, but it is difficult to assign an attribution.
