Head of an Old Man
Mid-XVIIcentury. Black chalk, Red chalk on laid paper. Not on display
This is a study of a head, depicted in left profile. Sánchez Cantón considered the work to be of the Madrid school from the mid-17th century and pointed out its Venetian echo. The drawing might also be the work of a follower of Bassano or a Madrid-made copy of Venetian Titian figures, since it is worth noting its close resemblance to the figure of Joseph of Arimathea in Titian’s Christ on the Way to Calvary in the Museo del Prado (P000439).
