Hercules and Omphale
XVIII century. Grey-brown wash, Pencil on yellow paper. Not on display
The figures are depicted seated and half-naked. On the right, Hercules holds the spindle and distaff. On the left, Omphale, with bow and arrows in her right hand, contemplates him. Above are two cupids, one of whom shoots his arrow at Hercules.
This is a less skilful copy of Dorigny’s print, dated 1634, which reproduces Simon Vouet’s composition.
