José Curtoys de Anduaga (died in Madrid, 19 April 1891) was the painter´s brother, with whom he worked on various missions. He worked as a diplomat and attained the rank of minister of state in Stockholm. Fluent in several languages, he translated Schiller´s Don Carlos from German. He holds the Legion of Honour around his neck and the grand cross and sash of the Order of Isabella the Catholic on his breast.
