Male Figure Study / Study of a Male Nude
1714. Red chalk, White chalk, Black chalk on grey paper. Not on display
This drawing depicts a male figure seated on a rock, naked and leaning on his right elbow. He is holding his head with his right hand and resting his left on the ground. On the same sheet, there is a slight sketch of a left leg in black pencil. On the verso, there is a half-naked male figure. The technique – in the 16th-century tradition typical of Carreño’s style – corresponds to what might be expected of the drawing oeuvre of Toribio Álvarez, who is known for his paintings.
