Martyrdom of Saint Laurence

XVIII century. Wash, Pencil, Grey ink, Grey-brown ink on paper.
Not on display

The composition is based, in reverse and with numerous variations, on Titan´s great altarpiece in the Escorial. The style points to an artist active in the second half of the eighteenth century, probably Spanish, who may have known the composition from an engraving.
