Nuévalos (Aragon)
Ca. 1856. Oil on canvas attached to canvas. On display elsewhere
Landscape of Nuévalos (Zaragoza), a town located at the confluence of the rivers Piedra and Ortiz. The Monastery of Piedra Natural Park is located within its municipal boundaries.
On the left, a stony path opens up on a slope bordered by bushes and trees, which disappears behind a rocky barrier on the right. The mountainous background is silhouetted against the sky. This is probably the same spot depicted in (P004382 and D005187), although the background –perhaps because of its higher focus– is hidden by the vegetation in the foreground (Pintura del Siglo XIX en el Museo del Prado: Catálogo General [19th-century Painting in Museo del Prado: General Catalogue], Madrid: Museo del Prado, 2015, p. 252 and Guitérrez Márquez, A. in Carlos de Haes en el Museo del Prado 1826–1898 [Carlos de Haes in Museo del Prado 1826–1898], Madrid: Museo del Prado, 2002, p. 70).
