Pedro Jiménez de Haro
1829. Oil on canvas. Not on display
Pedro Ximénez de Haro (Villarrobledo, Albacete, 1790–Madrid, 1854). Editor, patron and art collector. The sitter in this portrait was an important local politician in Madrid City Council. His devotion to art collecting, to the Fine Arts in general (he was a close friend of the painter Juan Gálvez), prompted his appointment as advisor to Madrid’s Academy of San Fernando in 1841. Mercar was close to the aesthetics of Tegeo, yet little is known of his career aside from a few known works, all of them portraits.
