Procession of the Magi

From its style, the drawing appears to have been made by a Florentine artist active around 1600, perhaps from the circle of Jacopo Chimenti da Empoli (1551-1640) or Cigoli (1559-1613). Andrea del Sarto was still greatly admired at that time. The drawing is copied from Andrea del Sarto´s Santissima Annunziata 1511 fresco, which shows the arrival of the Magi at Herod´s residence. The Prado copy re`peats the lower section of the composition.
