The composition, intended for the decoration of a pendentive, corresponds with that of the upright oval fresco on the ceiling of the Salone of the Palazzo Lercari-Parodi, Genoa, one of a series representing illustrious members of the Lercari family. A variant of the present composition, also a studio drawing, is in the Uffizi, Florence (inv. no. 13729F).
