Saint Joseph with the Infant Christ

Mid-XVIIcentury. Black chalk on laid paper.
Not on display

Saint Joseph is depicted standing on some steps, next to a pedestal. He is holding the Infant Christ with both hands and gazing upwards.

It is a magnificent work made in Madrid – from the circle of Carreño by an artist amongst Cerezo and Escalante – and is of superb quality.
