Saint Rose of Lima
1670 - 1680. Grey-brown wash, Pencil, Pencil ground on laid paper. Not on display
Saint Rose of Lima is depicted kneeling at a table, kissing the feet of the Infant Christ. The latter flies beside her and crowns her with a wreath of roses. Cherubim fly above, scattering more roses. Since there is no evidence of a composition by Murillo of which this work can be considered a copy, it must be the work of a pupil or imitator of Murillo, close in time, as it probably dates from the years 1670–80.
