Saint Vincent Ferrer Announcing the Miraculous Return of Some Ships
XVII century. Pencil, Grey-brown wash on laid paper. Not on display
On the right, Saint Vincent Ferrer is depicted standing at a pulpit and preaching with his hand raised. In front of the pulpit, seated and standing figures gesticulate. On the left of the composition, another group consisting of a seated woman with a child and two standing figures appear. The background is a seascape, with ships in the distance and fish that seem to be listening to the saint.
The style is remotely reminiscent of that of Alonso Cano. Its subject matter suggests that it may have been executed by a Valencian artist.
