Studies of angels / Sketches of children’s bodies and a foot
Second half of the XVII century. Pencil, Chalk ground on laid paper. Not on display
Study of four young angels boldly flying and one, a child, with his back to the viewer. On the reverse, light sketches in black pencil of children’s bodies and a foot are perceptible.
The attribution to José del Castillo does not seem tenable and is only based on superficial analogies in the strokes of a thick pen. It must be by the hand of a Madrid-born painter from the second half of the century, possible close to Herrera el Mozo.
