The Adoration of the Magi
XVII century. Grey-brown wash, Pencil, White lead on laid paper. Not on display
The Virgin, seated to the left of the drawing in front of the stable, stands up to show the Christ Child to Melchior, who kisses his foot. To the right, the other Kings and the procession, pages, soldiers, camels, etc., are depicted.
The Prado does not have the drawings of Michel March that would allow a comparison in order to attribute the work to him. However, the general nature of the drawing, its errors and an evident remote reminiscence of Orrente allow this attribution to be provisionally maintained.
